For your consideration is a vintage set of Madame Alexander dolls featuring the beloved cartoon characters of Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Sweet Pea.
This set is number 20127.
This set is in excellent condition and comes in its original box including Popeye’s can of spinach.
Madame Alexander dolls have been beloved for almost ninety years and have emerged as a favorite doll collectible. Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman actually founded the Alexander Doll Company in 1923 at her kitchen table. From there she began to pursue her dream of handcrafting quality dolls for children and grew her little company into a world famous enterprise.
The earliest Madame Alexander dolls were made entirely of cloth. Alexander’s first cloth dolls were actually made during WWI to help stock her father’s shop: dolls that today are rare and highly collectible. Alexander soon found a larger base for her creations: most notably, with FAO Schwartz. Many of these early dolls were fashioned after storybook characters, early motion picture stars, and international celebrities—a trend that would continue throughout her career.
Alexander retired in 1988 and sold the company to a group of private investors.
